With all the advertising about it guts, has any one noticed that they ended up with a very light duty truck. Great engineering, a fantastic engine, transmission, disc brakes, tough frame and what do they do, they put a rear axle under it that is payload limited to 1500 pounds. What a screw up. Had they put a full floating rear axle back there it would have been real competion for the domestic trucks. Now the grape vine says that Toyota does not entend to ever make the truck heavy duty. I wish I undrestood what goes on in the board rooms? John

The 07 Tundra is a 1/2 ton. No 1/2 ton truck has factory full floating axle. But the Tundra does have the lowest axle ratio of any 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton and has larger brake rotors than most one tons. Toyota does plan on coming out with a 3/4 ton, one ton and diesel.

To the best of my knowledge Toyota has dropped all plans to make the Tundra a heavy duty pickup. I also understand that Nisson has also put off their possible heavy duty until at least 2009.
My sources are Resaniuum.com, Jalopnik.com, Inside Line, Autoblog.com, leftlanenews.com snd I am told the same information can be found at edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleid=116931
These decisions must be based on what they think will and will not sell.

I'm an automotive journalist. I have articles in 11 magazines and dozens of websites. This is what I do for a living. My inside sources have seen a Tundra 3/4 ton and dually in the R&D at San Antonio. I talk with the other journalist from Edmonds, Truck Trend, Trailer Life, PickupTruck.com, etc. at the major truck media launches. Was driving the new Tundra in November in Arizona, was on one of the 6 Ford private jets in January to drive the 08 Power Stroke in Texas, was in San Diego with the GM for the HD GMT900 media launch in February.

To the best of my knowledge I know what I'm talking about. I don't have to quote someone else. Have you read my Tundra review? It's in a few horse magazines as well as my websites and www.HorseTrailerWorld.com. Toyota is the most tight lipped of the manufactures. So we'll all know for sure when they announce it to the press, which I am an accredited member. I belong to MPG and RMAP.

I'm not on the forum to just give my oppinion and depate, I'm reporting what I know. I'm the guy who stayed up twice this week until 6 am meeting deadlines for magazines. Debating me with 3rd party info does set well. Writing is how I feed my family. Your opinion interests me, not what another journalist thinks, they have already told me when I set in the Faulkner 70 Ford private jet in Dallas for 4 hours waiting to get de-iced.

Sorry, in a tired, bad mood. I may have to fire myself again. The forum is for sharing info, and I shouldn't claim to know everything. I sold trucks for 10 years prior and my erogant closer side comes to the surface once in a while.
