i have a 1997 f-150, thr rear axles have too much play, they slide in and out too much, i pulled the tire off, the hub does not move up and down only in and out, do you think it is my bearings?

How much play is there? 1/4 inch of play is fairly common and nothing to worry about, now if you start getting play up and down, I'd worry.
