I need to upgrade from my '89 F150 4x4 pulling a little 2 horse trailer. I haven't kept up with the times and need advice. We're looking for a 3 horse GN trailer w/LQ. I don't know the weight, and if I need a 3/4, or be safer with a 1 ton. We don't need 4x4 or dually as we'll be hauling once a month only 250 miles. Since hauling is PT do I need diesel? Does Ford make a 1 ton extended cab short bed? Thanks for your help and any advice you can give.

First you need the weight of the trailer and horses. LQ's can add 4000 to 8000#'s, horses can average 1500# each with water, hay and tack. So you need to narrow down your total loaded trailer weight to have any idea of which truck.
