I have a 05 3/4 ton Dodge diesel with a 6 speed manual trans. We pull a 14 ft. bumper pull horse trailer. I love the mileage we get without a trailer 22mpg and 20 mpg at 70 mph+ on the interstate, but the mileage pulling the trailer with one horse is abysmal. We have been only getting 8-10 mpg going 70 mph. Am I being unrealistic? I always hear these amazing stories from folks who claim they get 15-16 mpg pulling twice the load that I do (approx 6000lbs) Any insight? I have wondered about chips and modules but often hear conflicting stories Bruce
Probably not a lot of miles on your engine yet, correct? Everyone I know tells me it takes quite a while for the diesels to find their groove and really start performing and getting MPG in the double digits.
I'm on my 3rd Dodge Diesel, and have pulled various sized horse trailers, and I don't pull quite as fast as you...but I've never had much over 9 mpg w/ the smallest of the trailers. I vaguely remember that I think I got around 11 mpg on one trip, but that seemed to be the exception.
I too heard of others getting amazing numbers (high teens), but it never happened for me.
