Have a '92 1500 4X4 now
5.7 is tired at 170K mi and will get replaced-also needs some front axle boots (going to do axles since they're original)

Have access to 454 TBI-is it feasible to put the 3/4 ton components in this thing, or should I cool it and just leave it stock otherwise? For a few extra bucks, I figure upgrade is best.

GM used to put the 454 in a 1/2 ton. But if you are going to tow heavy loads, your 1/2 ton only has a semi-floating axle and lighter grame and springs. But if you're going to haul what you've always towed, you won't hurt the 7.4L the way it is stock. The tricky part usually is the wiring harness and engine controls when swapping different engines. Good Luck.

Have the engine controls and harness down...did my research on that,
Didn't realize the frame itself was lighter weight...woops: that ends that idea. Springs and differentials are one thing, but frame is frame. Feasibility study has now ended...ha ha

Thanks again, Mr. Truck
