All,
Anybody that has this figured out please chime in. Purchasing a RAM 3500 SWB 4WD 3500. Plan to haul my Logan BP 2-Horse Trailer which has a GVWR of 7000 lb and GAWR of 3500 lb.(Only own one horse (1500-1700 pds with a 30 gal water tank) but could tow up to possibly two) I am also considering obtaining a Caribou 6.5 Outfitter Slide in Camper (850 lbs dry with a 34 gal water tank). Now the truck I am buying specs out at a GVWR of 9900 lbs and Payload standard of 2720 and payload max of 2920. Max passengers at anyone time would be up to two. Does anybody know the math that will tell me if I will not exceed total GCW for this combination? DT |

Well take 15% tongue weight of the Logan loaded at 1050#. So subtract that from payload then 34 gal water times 8 equals 272# subtracted from payload. I don't think the Caribou has a black tank, but you have to subtract propane. So I'm showing 2172# payload, so you have room for passengers and fuel. I'd have to look it up but the GCW for you truck is at least 20,000#'s. So with truck GVWR of 9900 and trailer GVWR of 7000, you have exceded anything. You can look up your rear axle rating next.
