Hi, I'm looking at buying a new truck pretty soon.
I don't tow all that often, mainly during hunting season and just before. The biggest load I'll pull on any regularity would be a 19ft dual axle trailer with and old Ford 3000 tractor and maybe a 4wheeler or mule. So I don't THINK i NEED a Diesel. I do however think i should go with a 3/4 ton. I was wondering what ya'll thought about the ram 2500 with the Hemi. Everything I've read says it's got more hp and torque than all the other gas engines availble in the 3/4 ton class. So my question is what do you think? Hemi good bad? do I need a diesel? how's the trans? does the diesel and hemi get the same trans? If it matters I'm in Alabama and it's only slightly hilly where I'll be towing. thanks |

Hello Riggs51 ... Trying to stay at $19k is the deal breaker for a Diesel. The diesel option is around $4000 over a gas engine. You'll need to drive a lot of miles quickly to justify the money spent.
Gas engines used to need tune-ups, (plugs, points, etc) that cost more than a diesel. Now it's the other way around. Diesel oil and filter changes cost more than gas engine maintenance. I do agree a 3/4 ton truck is the way to go. |
