Does anyone know about a noise that 1999-2002 chevy Silverado makes that sounds like a ticking noise, almost like a valve or lifter. My buddy has a Tahoe as well and his sounds very similar but mine has gotten worse and was wondering if anybody knows anything on this subjet. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Does it happen when you first start out. Then go away when the engine is warm ?

You might have the "cold start knock" Some folks have horror stories... others just take off easy till the engine is warm & ignore it

Yes it does have that as well, but like you said it goes away after the truck warms up. however this new sound doesn't go away after the truck runs for a moment. this sound actually speeds up and slows down with the idle of the motor, but it doesn't get louder or less noticable. I think I'm going to have to tear it down but I was wondering if anyone knows what it might be so I can find it easliy instead of open heart surgery on the motor.

Piston slap is on Technical Service Bulliten from GM for "cold engine knock" so your local GM service center can look it up and see if you can get a free extended warranty and a lot of folks have.

The 4.8L and 5.3L had more problems with piston slap than did the 6.0L. The 6.0 is a good engine.

Piston slap is from a short piston skirt.
