Hey, Im not sure if this can even be done, but... I would like a truck with low mileage, however, I LOVE the body style of the 1984 GMC trucks, I have seen a lot of trucks around that have the bed taken off of them, would it be possible to get a newer truck, and buy an old 1984 GMC and switch the body parts around on it?
Enough time and money and you can do anything. If you stay in the same sieres of truck, alot will interchange, but things like going from carburator to fuel injection and electronic ignition can all be a nightmare to change over unless you get a complete truck so you can move over everything. You can buy restoration kits back several decades.

Experience shows that the best way to get the '84 you want is to find the most solid example on the road (which will cost more) and then replace a FEW items on it. Mr. Truck is right about restoration parts for all kinds of old units. Operations from JC Whitney up to General Motors dealers sell truck parts. It's VERY difficult to retro newer generation stuff into older trucks.
On a recent trip to California, I was surprised to see so many rust free mid-80s GM trucks on the roads and on the car lots, so they can be found.
