Any year of the 7.3 would be fine. Ford changed some things in 99 that gave the engine more power. Any of the 99-03 7.3's shoul be fine!

Actually, during 2003, Ford changed from the 7.3-liter to 6.0-liter engine. From what I can find out, that engine had a great many problems for too many folks to be a good risk in a used vehicle. Be sure to run a CarFax report and an OASIS report on any truck you are interested in. A Ford dealer can run the OASIS report for you if you have the VIN. You can run the CarFax online for a few bucks. Good luck!

The early 03's still had the 7.3. Not all of the 6 liters are bad but I wouldn't own one seeing the amount of repairs that I've seen.
