I'm ready to order the new '08 F350. I'd appreciate any advice on the various options available. I'll be pulling (not at the same time) both a 6000lb bumper pull 2 horse trailer (loaded weight), and a 3 horse gooseneck with living quarters, probably 15,000 - 16,000 lbs loaded. I'll be driving back and forth to work 70% of the time, towing 30% of the time. Most of the towing will be in within Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky.
Below is what I have so far. I'd appreciate any advice. Am I missing something I'll regret after ordering? I drove the 08 Super Duty last week in Texas. Towed 10k trailers with a F250 and 20k with a F450. My review will be out soon. I wouldn't get dual alternators unless you're building an ambulance. The PowerScope mirrors are great. The gooseneck hitch doesn't come from Ford. Towing 16,000#'s of trailer would make me get the 4.10 axle ratio if you're getting a dually. If you're getting a SRW, you may not have an option. I didn't see where Ford changed that. The 6.4L PS starts faster, is quieter and smoother, a little less lag. But do expect 10% less mpg with the new particulate afterburner for the new emissions.

Thanks for your response. I was thinking dual alternators to recharge living quarters horse trailer batteries when I camp w/o electric hook up. Not knowing much about LQ trailers, is recharging from the truck possible or even practical?

Sure while you are towing the trailer down the road, your truck can charge the batteries on your trailer.

Tom, I have two questions. First, out of curiosity, what trailer did you get? We just got a 3-horse Hart with Outlaw LQ. No mid-tack, 11-foot short wall. No slide-out. With horses, our trailer weighs in at just under 13,500#. Second, where do you like to ride in the area you mentioned? We live in western KY and do some riding in Indiana, KY (of course), IL, MO and TN. Live each day like it's your last, 'cause one day you're gonna be right. - Ray Charles |

I haven't gotten the trailer yet. Right now I'm tent horse camping with a two horse bumper pull.
I just got back from Deam Lake in IN, and usually ride southern Ohio and Indiana parks. |

Thanks for the reply! Have you ever been to Midwest Trail Ride near Norman, IN? It's our favorite place to ride.
