I have a 7.3L with approx. 130K miles. I have had it since it had 100K and it is never seemed to have a lot of power. Granted it has a toolbox and dumpbody for residual weight but it has 5.11 gears(something close anyways). I do not know how to recognize the turbo when it should be kicking in. Is there a computer or something I can put on it to check the health of engine? Thanks.

Ford's computers won't give you general health, just will let you know if everything is reading within specs. Take it somewhere and have it run on a dyno, that will tell you exactly what the engine is doing. The 97 came with 215 horse and around 400 foot pounds of torque. You should be able to hear the turbo when it spools up, with the fatory airbox it isn't that loud though.
