I just purchased a 2002 F250 Lariat Superduty 7.3L Powerstroke 2WD Crew-Cab Long Bed about a month ago that had just been "serviced" according to the used car jockey. It had 83K miles on it, verified with a carfax report (1 previous owner). As soon as I got it home, I changed the oil using a K&N Filter and Shell Rotella 15W40, and changed the fuel filter, which was filthy dirty. I think the used car dealer's idea of "just serviced" means washed up real nice.
Everything works, it looks like new and I have no complaints. Now I want to upgrade a little with longevity, economy and convienience in mind more so than performance. Performance would be a nice by-product. This is what I am thinking in chronological order. Please tell me what you think: 1. Bypass oil filtration (Amsoil BMK 11 or 12) 2. Diesel Turbo Lifesaver 3. Cat-Back Dual 4" Exaust (Magnaflow?) 4. FIPK (K&N or S&B?) 5. Deep Sump Auto Tranny Pan w/Drain 6. Diff Cover 7. Gauges (Boost, EGT Pyrometer, Diff Temp) The truck already has a factory tranny temp gauge, but I have no idea how accurate it is. I am not opposed to adding an aftermarket gauge to the pod, based on reccomendations I get from you. This is my first diesel. I do a lot of heavy towing in hot and humid South Carolina summer weather. So, what do you guys think and what would you do in my position? |

Can't speak to your listed mods, but I would review the factory recommended services for the miles and check to see if all of it was done. I just bought a backhoe. Some of the services were never done. Like changing the torque converter and transmission fluid.

Looks like a good order to do things. I have the Diesel Turbo Lifesaver and love it! We did an article on it here at Mrtruck. The only thing I don't see is a chip or programmer. Are you planning to do that too? If so, Edge makes a great one that gives you plenty of power and helped my fuel mileage too. Let us know how it turns out!
