My trailer sits level at 60". The sidewalls of the bed on my truck are at 58.3". Is there any way to lower the truck bed to give me 8" of clearance for the gooseneck?
It depends on which truck. Ford 99- newer single rear wheel F350's have a 2.5" block above the axle that can be removed and some Dodges have a axle spacer you can take out. To get 8 inches, you may have to space up the trailer.

The truck is a 2006 F350 SRW. I talked to the dealer and they are afraid the front of the truck will ride too high, if I take out the spacers. They think it will be hard or impossible to focus the headlights if I take out the spacers. If there is a way to do it, I would love to, because if I change out the trailer axles (Dexter torflex's) I can gain 3" height in the trailer. Someone told me that if you raise the rear of the trailer (a 23' gooseneck), you might get more than 3" of height. It's hard for me to visualize and I don't want to start something that will cause problems and be expensive to no benefit. What do you think?
Well, let me tell you a story. In model 99 (Ford skipped the 98, changed the name from Heavy Duty to Super Duty) and they blocked up the rear of the F250 and both F350's. Then they discovered that campers and trailers where haveing a hard time fitting the new taller trucks. So one time under warranty, Ford, if you asked (like a secreat rebate) they would for free take out the rear blocks, put on shorter brake hoses and shocks. Then in 2000, Ford left the blocks out of the F250 and F350 Dually. So if you want to see what your truck will look like after the rear blocks are taken out, just go look at a 2006 F250. You don't need to change the brake hoses or shocks, just take out the spacer blocks. I've written several articles on the magic spring dust that makes a F350 single rear wheel. You won't find any part difference between the F250 and F350 single rear wheel except the block spacer.
One Ford truck website even went threw all the part numbers and proved what I'd been saying. I even had a top Ford manager agree with me that is was marketing not engineering. I have the Ford Towing and RV guide, which is a great broshure and for that last 5 years there is hardly (0-200#'s) difference in towing capacity, but 1000# difference in payload. They figured they had to give you something for the extra $1000. But towing capacity gives away the real story. I must have made enough stink about the "magic spring dust" that in 2003 with a larger diesel engine and better 5-speed auto tranny, they lowered the towing capacity on a F250 crew cab from 2002, of course that didn't make since. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
