I am trying to find out how many quarts of transmission fluid does a 6.0 powerstroke diesel hold. I drive a 2004 f-550 dump auto trans. also, did ford make a 7.3l in that year im not sure what size motor it is cuz the truck is not mine. it only has 20,000 miles but was leaking the other day thanx to anyone who can help

A 2004 F-550 should have the 6.0 engine and Torqshift transmission. Unless you're doing a teardown, the total fluid capacity doesn't matter. If you are... figure 20 quarts. When you open the drain, you'll get about 8 quarts. The torque converter, lines and cooler will hold the rest.
If you're just replacing leakage, you'll need to top up the fluid using the dipstick to get the correct amount of fluid. A word of caution... The Torqshift requires Mercon SP fluid. Any old oil will work in the auto tranny, but for how long? I would stick with the Mercon SP in my $4,000 tranny. |
