My wife and I bought a 5th wheel to live in while we built our home and had it delivered to the site by the dealer. We recently decided that we needed to use it or sell it. We decided to use it so I started researching what that would entail. It is a 37 footer with 3 slides with a dry weight of 10,200 lbs. I recently found out that in North Carolina I need a class A license to tow this size RV. I am currently studying for the written test. Does anyone have any experience with what the road test is like? Secondly, I have a 1999 F-350 dually as a tow vehicle. Any input here would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks, Eric

Hello Wannabee ... You're correct NC requires you to have a "regular" class A license for a trailer over 10,000 # GVWR

Here's a link to the NC DOT manual. In section 12.1 it describes the driving test. The driving test is adapted from the CDL section by the examiner.

Hosspuller, thanks for the input. I did go to a local DMV and they gave me a study guide but were not quite cleas on what the skills test would entail. I have found that my best resource for RV info is sites like this one. Thanks again.
