Hello guys!

I have and older (1986) Vacationeer 5th wheel. I was going to install a Pop Up RV3 Gooseneck adaptor that I got from Mr. Truck but I found a little bit of play and a fine crack around the king pin. Is it ok to weld it on the outside and grind it flat or do I need to remove or even replace the pin box? The pin box looks like it's welded in to the frame so removal would be a pain. Vacationeed is no longer in business so I can't call them for parts or advice.
Thanks!

My pin box is welded to the frame so it's not a very simple job to replace it. I ended up taking it Chris at Dear Iron in Brighton. We cut a hole in the top of the pin box to access the top of the kingpin. The factory weld had cracked around about half of the pin. We cleaned and straightened the metal and re-welded the kingpin in place around the factory weld then re-welded the piece in place on top of the pin box. Now all I have to do is grind the weld and paint the pin box and it'll look and work great!
