i have an 88 gmc sierra and my friend wants to give me his camper. i was initially going to put som adda liefs in and go on my way but some one told me the axle wouldnt handle the weight. how do i find out how much weight i can put on my truck? can i get away with bulking up the susspension and moving on or do i have to addres the axle issue? i realy wouldnt like it if i had to pass on a free camper that is in verry good condition.rcoaks@q.com

If your truck is less than the truck your friend used with the camper, the chances are low that you'll be happy. A camper is top heavy and driving a swaying truck more than a few miles isn't much fun.

that is not what im woried about i realize it wont be the most comfortable ride in the world and i can remody most of the ride problems. my problem is will my wheel bearings and gears in the rearend handle the weight.

Depending on the camper weight, wheel bearings and gears are the least of your worries. Tires are the most senstive to load. Look on your tire's sidewall. see if 2x the max load is anywhere close to the weight of the camper. Unless the total tire load rating is over the camper weight by 1500 pounds (remember the tires have to carry the truck too), I'd pass on the camper.
