I am presently using a 1997 Silverado with a 7.4 Lt. V8 which handles my camper fine. It produces 290 hp and 417 ft lbs of torque. The new GM engines have a smaller displacement but produce more hp (353) but less Torque (360 ft lbs). Will these new engines handle my camper? I have a gross weight of 3400 bs with fuel, water, passangers etc. Some day I have to get a new truck and prefer gas and not a V10. The new Tundra would work fine except it has a weak semi floating rear axel which can only handle 1600 lbs. Why they did that I will never know.

Welcome to the forum.
My crystal ball is cloudy today... so can't tell you which truck you should get... But
On that future day you start looking at trucks... Just look at the Gross vehicle weight rating. (or GVWR) Add the weight of the truck and your load (passengers, stuff, and camper) The closer you're to the GVWR the more heavily loaded (slow to stop, slow to start)the truck is. Anything below the GVWR is okay. But, the further you stay from the GVWR the more get up and go, and stopping you'll have.
