Where does the factory mount the in bed fifth wheel electrical plug on a 2005 Chevy 3500 long bed? I have been told not to it in the rear as you have to get under the fifth wheel over hang to hook it up and it is not safe. I have short legs and I can just barely reach over the side of my pickup bed and putting it in the rear by the tail gate is a good spot for me to reach but I don't want to get hurt in case the hitch pin was to failed (I know it is a long short but if it weren't for bad luck I would have any luck). If it mounts ahead of the wheel well on the left side, how does the wire run up to it, on the inside of the dually fender or is there another way up?

Hello Bikernut... I'm not gonna answer your original question since I don't know. I will tell you I'm left the trailer plug in the factory location (At the bumper) for twenty years and thousands of miles. I haul both BP and GN trailers. I don't see anything that's unsafe by getting under the GN to make or break the connection. The only time I don't get under the trailer GN is when it is being jacked.
Besides, usually one has to get under the GN to either extend or retract the jack foot.

Now.. my reasons... The GN weight is resting on either the jack or the truck bed when connecting the plug. In both these situations the trailer is secured from moving by structures designed to hold the weight of the trailer.

Second... The GN wire is simply run over the tailgate. Not the most elegant solution but it works for me.
