We are looking to buy a fifth wheel with a dry weight of 7000# and max load of 8500#. We are trying to make the right choice on the truck. We will only be towing four or so times a years at the most, but will be making trips through mountains. First, we are looking at the ford 150 and the Titan. Both are rated to 9500 pounds. which is going to be the best choice for safty and durablity. Second, are we going to be stuck traveling at 20 miles an houron the grades between cali and oregon????

Two good choices, the F150 since 2004 is built like a 3/4 ton without full floating axles. But for power, you can't beat the Titan. So for mountains, I'd get the Titan. It has a real 5-speed automatic and you can put it in manual mode and shift each gear which is nice for coming down the fast side of the mountain.
