How can I tell how much the axels on my trialer are rated for? I want to be able to haul my tractor but I'm afraid that my axels are most likely 3,500# each and the tractor weighs over 10,000#. If that is the case, is there a good way to modify the trailer, but first I want to verify that my axels are only 3,500 pounds each.
THANK YOU! |

Easiest and best way is to get under the trailer and find the axle nameplate.
Otherwise... you'll have to compare the spindle and bearing sizes. I'm not in favor of modifying trucks or trailers to carry more weight than originally designed. It can be done, but to be correct it is usually not cost effective. For example, you change the axles... what about the tires? ... and wheels ? ... and trailer floor ? ... and trailer frame? ... and trailer coupler? ... springs ? ... So you change a bunch of items. In the end you have 10 pounds going into a 5 pound bag, that cost you the price of a 20 pound bag. |
