I wrote last year asking questions about hauling a 2-horse trailer with an 06 4.7L V8 ext. cab Dodge Dakota. Well i purchased the truck, bought a lightweight (1850#) new WW horse trailer and have been hauling my horse successfully ever since. I do mostly mountain hauling and have not been disappointed with the power; tow package helps! In fact i've been quite pleased and impressed overall. The only thing i was a bit disappointed with is the gas mileage is not what i was hoping for, especially empty...it's only about 13mpg. Oh well...guess it beats the 8mpg with my F250, and is certainly easier to maneuver and park in tight spots. Just thought i'd let y'all know! So no, you don't necessarily need a monster truck for hauling one or two hosses. I appreciate the advice and still enjoy the forum. Thanks!
