I am new truck owner so new gooseneck trailers so I have a few questions. I own a 2008 silverado diesel 2500HD. I want to buy a horse trailer and want to know what I need to be looking for in that trailer and how much trailer can I pull? What would be the max loaded weight and trailer weight? Like I said I'm new to this so these are probably crazy questions...thanks in advance...joyce

There are two specifications that you'll need.

1. The Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating. or GCVWR or something like that. This is the maximum total weight of the loaded trailer and loaded truck. So if your truck is 8,000 # and your GCVWR is 18,000# a 10,000# trailer is your limit.

2. The other rating is the payload. A GN will put a substantial amount of weight into the bed of your truck. Compare the loaded trailer's hitch weight to your payload. Remember that the payload is everything aboard the truck... The 1/2 cord of firewood and your MIL .... it all counts.

Bonus advice... Get a long bed truck. Then you'll have no issues with hitch placement and trailer/cab interference
