Ok This may be a stupid question to some but to me it's very important. I own a 2005 dodge Ram 1500 that is capable of towing up to 7500lbs. I'm looking into buying a 2 horse bumperpull trailer to tow my one horse cross country in. Now what exactly are electric brakes? Do I have to have some device installed in my truck to make these "electric brakes" work like a jake brake or something? As much info on this would be greatly appreciated. One more thing a jake brake will void the warrenty on my truck, is there an alternative I could use if I needed a divice installed in my truck for the trailer brakes? Thanx!!

Electric brakes are standard on RV and Horse Trailers. (Not on boats for the obvious water concerns). If your Ram has the tow package with a 7 pin connector at the bumper all you will need is a good brake controller. Depending on the connector from the trailer it will either plug directly into your truck or via an adapter.

Exhaust brakes themselves don't void the warranty. You have the right to improve your truck under the 1975 Magnuson Moss warranty act. Only if what you add to the truck causes damage to the truck, can it void warranties.
