I own a 2001 Ford F350 CrewCab SB SRW 4x4 7.3L Powerstroke with Auto 4SPD w/ OD. I live in Alaska and will be moving back to the lower-48 end of this summer. I plan on hauling what I don't sell out of my house down with me. I need to know what weight limits are safe for making a 3000 mile trip. I will be utilizing the bed of the truck to haul boxes and an enclosed trailer to haul larger items (furniture, refridgerator, washer/dryer, etc). Can you tell me what the equation is to figure this out? If I end up with 1500 pounds in the bed of my truck, what weight can I tow? If I have only 500 pounds in the bed, then what can the trailer weight be?

Any information would greatly be appreciated....

Hi I'll give you the capacities of your truck according to Ford. Payload in your truck should be shared with cargo and trailer tongue weight. So what you load in the truck bed, subract from the trailer tongue weight which goes against the trucks payload capacity. Generally the tongue weight is 10-15% of the trailer weight. This is a list for a bumper pull trailer as that sounds what you'll be using. Maximum trailer weight is 10,000#'s. Combined weight, GCWR, is 20,000# for truck/trailer. Also remember payload is Gross Vehicle Weight Rating minus the trucks curb weight. Curb weight is figured as a full tank of gas and a 150 # driver. Your trucks GVWR should be 9900#'s. Your payload is 2271#'s. All this is low as measured by Ford because the extra weight of the diesel, crew cab and 4x4. Have a safe trip.
