So heres the scoop. My 1994 dodge 1500 has a 5.2 V8, 5 speed Manual transmission, Heavy duty aftermarket drive shaft, 3:90 gear ratio, 110,000 miles, pretty stiff Rancho suspension, and runs great as far as I am concerned. I just want to know that if I start towing am I going to have any problems or troubles with the truck... and am I going to run it into the ground any time soon. Here is what I want to tow:
a Haulmark 7x16 enclosed cargo trailer with a curb weight of just over 2000lbs. It has tandem 3500# axels with 4 wheel electric breaks. It can be seen here: http://www.internet-trailer.com/HaulmarkBaseModels.aspx?CategoryID=29074 There will be no more than 2000lbs loaded in the trailer at any time while it is in tow. The trailer can hold about 5000lbs total with the tandem 3500# axels. I dont think I will have any problems with it and I will not be towning long distances. Just locally. With the electric breaks and my truck as is, does anyone have any objections to me making this trailer purchase... I know that every dodge is made to be able to handle towing 2000lbs stock on the rear step bumper. I obviously have a hitch... but with the 2000lb part in mind I figure this should be a cake walk... Any and ALL comments are welcome and I thank you for them. Please let me know what you think as to whether or not I can handle this without destroying my truck... thanks.. Sounds fine, the weak spot will be the clutch on a 1/2 ton, but that's not too much weight for your truck.
