I'm debating between a Tundra 5.7L or a Chevy Duramax. I currently have a Chevy 2500HD 6.0L and it struggles a bit when pulling my trailer. I have tested the Toyota pulling hte trailer and it pulls it great however the truck felt a little light and the wind pushed me around. I know the Duramax would be a great choice, but I use hte truck for everyday stuff around town and I don't want to ruin the truck with the start and stop driving. What should I do? Is the Tundra to light to pull a 31' trailer (7000# dry weight so probably 9500# Loaded)? Will I ruin the Duramax by using it for everyday driving? Help Please, I can read all the info and look at the numbers but I want you to give me your unbiased opinion. Thanks for the Help.

I don't think the Duramax would be ruined by stop & go driving. You'll wear brakes faster. The big killer is short trip driving. It doesn't allow the engine to get to operating temperature to boil off the water from combustion. But that would apply to the Tundra too.
The decision factor is cost. The diesel option is about $4000 more. |
