I just bought a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS and a Jayco Feather Lite Sport 197. The manual for the blazer says that we can tow 4000 without a WDH. The trailer weighs 3800 loaded with a tongue weight of 390 pounds, do you think that we need to use a WDH? The RV dealer did not reccomend us using a WDH or sway controll, but after reading the manual and your website we are a little confused what is your opinion?

I would try towing the trailer... But remember the trailer ratings are based on a load of bricks. That horse or horses will be top heavy, hard to secure, and able to move about all on its own... When a sway episode starts, get off the gas and use the hand switch on your brake controller to slow the rig. Using the vehicle brakes may make the oscillations worse instead of damping them.

I'm a big fan of wdh. The horse industry is the last to use it though. But there is a reason the RV folks have used them for 3 decades or more. And horse trailers with a live cargo are more dangerous than a travel trailer. My WDH article is at http://mrtruck.net/wdh.htm and a new hitch I'm trying to make hooking up easier and faster, http://www.mrtrailer.com/fastway.htm
