We have 25' 24000 lb gooseneck. We want to trailer a 23500 lb manlift with it. The trailer is licensed for 24000, and the 2004 ford diesel 350 srw for 15000.Can you pull over the gcvw with a cdl and if not what is the point of a 24000 lb gooseneck. I wish i had a drw but they are only rated for 2000lb more.

The CDL doesn't change the GCVWR of the truck it is set by the truck manufacturer. Their engineers figure the suspension and drive train capability. Your problem is the weight carrying capabilty of the truck's rear axle and tires. 23,500 pounds in the front of the trailer will overload your truck. You'll have to balance the manlift on the trailer to keep the truck from break-down.

You'll be over the GCVWR. Inflate the tires to max pressure and keep the speed low. Good luck.

Will I still be illegal if I balanced it so I only had 2500lb in the bed? If yes would it be a good idea to buy a truck old enough before they had official gcvwr? I can't afford a f650 and the vehicle inspectors around here are a real pain. Thanks

If you load the manlift so it's weight is on the trailer and the hitch is only carrying 2500 pounds... The trailer will be over its licensed weight by only the weight in excess of 26,500. (The 24,000 and the weight carried by the truck) Your truck is likely to be 8,000 pounds plus the 2500 of the trailer...less than 15,000 licensed for) You might be okay if you license the trailer for the combined manlift and trailer weight less the 2500 pounds hitch weight. It'll take a determined inspector to check the gross combined vehicle weight rating. The truck will have to be very old to not have a GCVWR. I have a 1985 Chevy and it has a GCVWR in the manual.
