My question about hauling a 2H trailer with an 06 Dodge Dakota seemed similar to this one...4.7L engine, auto, 3.55 gear ratio, 131" wb, except for a Dakota, not a 1500 Ram...so i am wondering if i would be okay with this truck if i'm not doing any major hauling and don't exceed 4500# total trailer weight with 2 horses. Of course the dealer is anxious to sell me this truck, but after reading some of the other postings, i'm seriously questioning this purchase. I do have a 3 mile stretch of climbing a mountain when i come home. My old truck is a 79 F250 460 with "only" 100,000 miles on it, which has actually been good to haul with except for the 7-8mpg...and i don't like having to maintain 2 vehicles. I always assumed my 4L, 6 cyl. 93 Explorer would not be appropriate to haul a horse trailer. I would like to make a decision in the next few days; anyone have any advice?? Would really appreciate it! Thanks. jane

The last word is Dodge's trailer tow ratings. Check the fine print and foot notes carefully. Do Not let anyone tell it'll be Okay... have them show you in the tow guide. It'll say such and such equipment "recommended" It means you'll need it. Many people have made expensive mis-purchases because they listened to a sales pitch.

The Dodge tow rating as i read it is 5950#, and what they are telling me at dealership is 7150#...so i am using the lower number...truck comes with tow package...oil and engine cooling system. I guess what i really want to know is if you've ever heard of anyone using a newer Dakota to pull a hors trailer...some of my friends think i'm crazy! And i don't want to make a mistake i regret on the road! Thanks again! j
