I bought a 4H with LQ Sundowner a little over a year ago - numerous problems, including leaking roof and doors, sagging ceiling and rotten wiring. But worse, corrosion at bottom of every panel after a few months and limited use, and rust spots on the back doors - aluminum doesn't rust. Sundowner, which boasts the best warranty in the business, refuses to honour the warranty for the corrosion and rust!! STAY AWAY FROM SUNDOWNER TRAILERS...
I'm very surprised to hear you are have corrosion problems, but more surprised that Sundowner isn't helping you. I too bought a 4horse LQ trailer in 2006.We have put a lot of miles on it in all kinds of weather. I've had a couple items that needed tweeking. The one time my dealer didn't respond quick enough, I contacted Sundowner directly, I highly recommend you call their service department. I spoke to a guy named Tim. He was very help full. One thing about dealing with the factory is that I got a real sense of company pride from everyone I spoke with. As someone who works with aluminum I can tell that the grade of aluminum that is used on their trailers is call 5350 H32. Under normal circumstances this metal is highly corrosion resistant. However ALL horse trailers do need to be washed on a regular basis. Good luck.
Thank you for posting this. I was regretting buying a Brenderup Baron L and thought I should have gotten the Sundowner. I find the Brenderup too narrow for my 17 hand warmbloods, with no head room and the rubber mats are very slippery when dry.... you should see all the scramble marks from one trip with a horse that stands beautifully in the trailer (she is only 16 hands). It is hard to know what to buy. I had heard only good things are these 2 trailers!
