I am looking into purchasing a 4H slant gooseneck since we have added more horses. The market in No. Ca. is primarily Exiss, Circle J, Featherlite and Sundowner. I have been using a Circle J 3H slant straight pull, which I may just keep as an extra. What is the general experience on these brands as far as service, durability, reliabilty and product for your dollar? Sundowner seems very pricy for not that much more or am I missing something? Tow vehcile is not an issue as both my rigs are Dodge Cummings.

Are you close enough to the ocean that salt air is a problem? Composite trailers like Logan with galvanized frame and aluminum skin work well in most Western States. There is a Logan dealer in Sacramento. I would put Logan a step above Circle J. I like Featherlite better than Exiss though they are similar and now part of the same company. Sundowner is a marketing machine, they present themselves well and are a good looking trailer. But they are an average trailer. Classic is an interesting trailer in California. It's new and not sure how they will hold up. they have an all aluminum gooseneck with square tube. I know there are some Cimarron dealers in California and they are in the top tier of trailers, like 4-Star, Hart and Elite.

Interesting coments and viewpoints. No, salt air is not an issue as I live a few hours inland from the coast. Also, I am not especially fond of 4H goosenecks in steel / laminate due to all the dead weight you are dragging around although they are a lot sturdier than aluminate laminates. I agree with you in that Sundowner seems to be an average trailer as the ones I have looked at are not made that well, finish work is average, and if you look at the LQ models, lack of craftmanship really stands out. I am surprised that they are able to get about $10K more than competitors for same trailer configurations. The other models you mentioned, Hart, Cimarron, 4-Star and Elite, I will have to investigate as I have no experience with them. Thanks for the information.
