Mr. Truck,
My wife rides her horses in endurance rides where you have to arrive the day before the race and if it is far away or a 100 mile ride, you also have to spend the night the day of the race. Most folks have goosenecks with living quarters. We have a nice 2 horse Sundowner that we like and I was thinking of getting a van that we could sleep in or even a small motor home. Are those bad options? We currently pull with a Tahoe and on your advice we got a weight distributing hitch. That has made a big difference and I wonder if that would make pulling with one of these vehichles acceptable. One last thing. I have a chevy truck with a v-6 in it. Do you think that is too small to pull a horse trailer? |

Yes, use the wdh with a RV or full size van. Class 3 RV's are getting more diesels, but now the majority are large gas engines. With the Ford 6.8L V-10 and the GM 8.1L V-8, will tow around 5000 easy enough if there aren't alot of mountains involved. Same with a van, with a larger engine, vans as in Ford and later model GM have body on frame similar to a truck. So if you have low axle ratio's (4.10 and 3.73) and tow package with external transmission coolers, you should be fine. With Class C RV's they can have long overhangs to the rear and benefit dramaticly with a wdh.
