I own a 2004 Ford F150 SuperCab short bed and want to buy an aluminum 2 horse gooseneck trailer which weighs under 5500 lbs. A friend told me that she couldn't get a gooseneck with her 2004 F150 supercab because the gooseneck would damage the side rails of her truck. The 2004's have deeper beds than the 2003s which causes the problem. Is this true? Is there any accessory which would fix the problem? If you lengthened the gooseneck somehow would it lead to problems keeping the trailer level when towing?
The 04 F150 does have a 3 inch deeper bed wall. Ford says the top of the tailgate on the F150 is the same height as the single rear wheel F350. But the F250/350 has a shorter side wall. I don't know why Ford did that, they aren't wild about folks using F150's for goosenecks. I know they wanted to be able to say they had the most cargo area in the bed, but I don't think it was thought through. It's tough having to raise the gooseneck as they will make the trailer unlevel so you have to adjust the neck up and use a spacer bar above the trailer axles also.
