We have a Dodge 05 1500 quad cab short bed 5.7L hemi SLT w/20 inch wheels and factory tow package. It is all we expected and more for the money. If i could have afforded the 2500 or 3500 I would have gone that route, but for now this is it. We currently have a 2 horse striaght aluminum Super Chief with D/room. The truck pulls it like a champ. Hills do not slow this engine. Braking is great.
What is this groups opinion regarding hauling a GN two horse with small LQ with this vehical? Thinking of adding either an extra leaf or using a set of super springs with it.

Your truck is lacking in several areas for a GN trailer. You'll have to do some research & checking or it could be expensive.

Short bed - Turning clearance.
LQ - a lot of weight to put on a light truck
Bed / rail height. - You'll want a minimum of 7 inches clearance between the top of the bed sides and tailgate. The trailer should be about level.
Helper springs and such - Don't change the design ratings of the tires, wheels, axle, shocks, etc

Thanks. I am trying to figure this all out. It is very hard to work thru the dealers to get good quality answers from the manufactures. I know all my weight ratings. I am actually heading down to a scale this week end to get some actual readings. I guess I may end up staying with the set up I have for the life of this truck. But I will continue plugging away. I was surprised to hear about rail height. Is that an issue? I will check into that one.

The new trucks have higher bed heights than those of yore. When folks shorten the GN post to keep the trailer level, the gap between the bottom of the GN and the tailgate or bed rails closes. When traveling over dips and humps, the tailgate gets crushed. There is no standard GN height.
