i have a 2002 supercrew full 4 door F150. With a 5.4 V8. I am looking at a goosneck stock trailer. 16 - 18ft. I will be hauling 4-5 horses averaging about 1100lbs. is this going to be too much for my truck to pull?

16' and 4 horses sounds reasonable if the trailer is light. Try not to go over 7-8000#'s total with horses in a 1/2 ton. Horses have a high center of gravity and cause trailer movement just from swating flies with their tails. You probably have the 3.55 rear axle ratio, so the engine and auto tranny should work fine. Check to see if you have the factory tow package. With external tranny cooler, reciever hitch, wiring harness, etc. The external transmission cooler is a must, things heat up when towing and fluids need changed more often.
