Hello Janda ...Welcome to the forum ..

What does Dodge say you should have for your loaded weight trailer? Ford & GM recommend a Weight Distributing hitch for trailers over 5,000 pounds. I like WDH for the sway control.

Also ... You do have a brake controller box installed in your truck? (Had a friend that thought brake lights meant she had brakes - Not so...)

The manual says something like 8500 lbs and I think that the trailer is 3000 then loaded it says the trailer is not to exceed 7000. We do not have a brake box installed but the trailer has brakes.

Janda: For your electric trailer brakes to function, you need to install a brake box (Controller). The brake box sends electric power to the trailer brakes when you step on the tow vehicle brake pedal. Do not attempt to pull a loaded trailer without the brake box and proper wiring. Most states laws require working brakes on heavy trailers such as horse trailers. Even if your state law doesn't, the laws of physics will require brakes for your own safety.

Janda ... You didn't say where your located ... (city or rural)

Check with trailer dealers, U-Haul, Dodge dealer, auto maint shop, etc. Dodge may have a cable that adapts your truck wiring to the controller... Ford and GM do ..

Do an internet search on trailer brake controller.

This link is to a very Popular unit. >>> http://www.rvwholesalers.com/catalog/product.php?productid=60&cat=54&page=1

There are many other units available.
