Hello,

I have a question regarding weight distribution systems. I am pulling a 2 horse slant load trailer with a dressing room. The trailer has a short tongue, which is covered. I believe the tongue length of the trailer is from about 18 to 24 inches, I am not sure of the exact length.

I have been told, that in order to properly install/attach a WDH, you need from about 30 to 36 inches on the tongue. Is this true? And if is, does this mean that a WDH can not be installed on my trailer?

I am pulling with a SUV, a 1/2 Yukon, so I must have a WDH.

Thank you for any advice.

Hello Lightlee ...
You're asking a question on a specific trailer. Over the internet, everybody is just guessing. You would not be well served by a guess... Mine or anybody else's I suggest you ask the trailer builder. They would know exactly which brand of WD hitch will fit their trailer.

An alternative is to take the trailer to several trailer hitch shops to get their opinions and cost estimates. The key idea is several.
Some shops only deal in one or two brands of hitches. So if their only tool is a hammer all problems look like a nail.

Thanks hosspuller for the reply!

We have a 05 4-Star slant load with a dressing room. We did call the manufacturer, they have not been much help.

I live in a small town so there are no a lot of hitch companies to survey.

Any suggestions on what brand of WDH might work?

1)What is the model # of your 4 star trailer ?

2)Measure the sides of the triangle the trailer tongue forms. Starting at the ball coupler, what is the length of the distance to the front of the trailer. Then what is the base of the triangle (from side to side)?

Hi, the best WDH that I've tested is Equalizer. It has built in sway control which is as important as moving the proper trailer weight to
both axles of your SUV. My brother just this month rolled his F150 and a 20' travel trailer. I showed him why I recommend Equalizer and that's what he's getting. The spring bar brackets are narrow and doesn't take much of a slot in the horse trailer tongue verses the wide clamp that most wdh's use. My review is at http://mrtruck.net/wdh.htm

Something to remember too and you might want to practice, is if you are in a panic situation, sometimes it is good to use the manual control on your brake controller instead of the brake pedal to get the trailer back in line.
