I've been planning my Chevy Duramax/ Outfitter Apex camper (2500 pounds) for several years now; I'm at least one more year away. Which presents the question: Should I go for the current Duramax 6.6 (365 hp, 660 torque) or wait for the new fuel efficient 4.5 diesel(310 hp,520 torque)-- with 'ground breaking tecnology' --<http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/15/gm-announces-clean-diesel-v8-for-pickups-and-the-hummer-h2/>
Touch choice!! I love the idea of better efficiency but I wanna get up those hills too!! Anyone have an opinion? Thanks! |

The crystal ball is a bit hazy this afternoon...
But as I read it... for a 25% reduction in fuel use you'll be gambling on a whole new engine design in its first year of production. Although both engines are called Duramax... The two engines were designed separately. What is common and what is new?? I'd rather not be a product design tester on my hard earned dollars. Since you're considering a camper, I wouldn't wait. The new engine is slated for the 1/2 ton trucks. A camper is a lot of load for a 1/2 ton truck. Purchase a current D-max in a 3/4 ton or dually truck. |
