I have a 2007 classic 2500HD Duramax that rides like a buckboard when empty. There once was a product called Velvet-ride shackles by BF Goodrich Aerospace which is apparently no longer available. I use the truck for pulling a boat (hundreds of miles at times) and a lightly loaded work truck. Is there a good way to improve the ride when empty if I don't need to carry heavy loads?

Hello Bull ... as you have discovered, a suspension to carry several thousand pounds is pretty stiff when unloaded. To make the stock suspension work it needs a weight. You could carry some weight in the form of cheap sandbags, but pay the fuel penalty when driving empty.
An Air suspension would be just the solution to varible weight. You might consider removing some of the elements of your rear springs for a permanent load reduction. Or new low rate springs. Decide on the relative costs. |
