I know my jeep grand cherokee is rated for 6500# but will it safely pull a 6 x 12 loaded tandem axle cargo trailer which will have a GVW of about 4800# through the Rocky Mountains? I plan on driving cross country up through Canada to Alaska.

It will with the 4.0L or a V-8, but the mountains will slow you down. Be sure to use a weight distributing hitch to give you a level rig and some steering weight. You'll want a very good trailer brake controller.
