Looking for SUV experience pulling horse trailers. I don't have the trailer or SUV yet. I would ideally like to pull a two horse with dressing room with two large horses.

I am thinking I need something like the suburban or maybe the nissan armada?

There are some of the full size SUV's that will haul 8000#'s though rated higher. I like the Ford Excursion with the diesel. The extra 600#'s from the diesel engine up front along with the low end torque, make it a great tower. I have a trailer review with the 2500 Suburban Quadrasteer at, http://www.mrtruck.net/quadrasteer.htm Suburban 3/4 ton still has rear leaf springs as the Excursion does, which helps for trailer stability. A lot of the smaller SUV's have gone to independent rear suspensions with coils and need a weight distribution hitch to haul near their capacity. I hope we have some owners offer their experiences here.

Mr. Truck,

I have a 97 Tahoe which came with a towing package. However, the original owner put on some after market shocks. We pull a fairly heavy Sundowner 2 horse trailer and the rear sags when we hook it up. Not terrible, but I need to fix it.

Can you tell me what shocks I should install?

Hi, coil over shocks and air shocks usually make a truck ride rougher. A 97 may still have leaf springs. If you have rear leafs, SuperSprings will be a big help. Or a weight distributing hitch will also level out your rig and move some weight to your front axle for better control. I preach often on using wdh. RV'ers have used them for decades but horse folks are the last hold out, even though a moving horse with the high center of gravity can be the most dangerous cargo. See my article on wdh at http://mrtruck.net/wdh.htm

This month I'm going to tour a new company that makes it easier to hook up a weight distributing hitch their products are at http://www.fastwayrv.com/
