I raise alpacas and am looking for an SUV that can pull a small light weight stock trailer with a few alpacas in it and has cargo space for show merchandise (maybe 1000# total animal wt. at the most) I need a trailer that can be divided into at least 2 sections and is tall enough to carry our horses from time to time (we have a truck for that). I have been looking at both the Honda Pilot and the Saturn Outlook. Any suggestions as to best of the two and a light weight trailer manufacturer? Thanks

The Saturn Vue has a Honda engine, not sure what the Outlook has, they sound similar, but the only trailer they could tow would be the Brenderup. The mini-SUV's aren't really able to tow much more than a popup tent trailer or something of that size. Brenderup is a one or two horse trailer that they tow with cars in Europe. http://www.mrtrailer.com/brenderup.htm

I don't know what brand of engine the outlook has but the XE model has: Engine: 6 Cylinder, 3.6 Liter, 270 HP, Torque: 248 @3200, Towing Capacity: 4500 Wheelbase: 118.9. I will not be towing horses with this vehicle and could go with an alpaca trailer, which is shorter and lighter wt. Perhaps you could recommend a different mid size SUV. This is something I plan to drive daily but will only use for towing maybe 4-5x per year with a max cargo/animal wt of 1500#. Thanks...

You're probably looking for fuel economy. The SUV's that are better trailer towers are not good on mpg like Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango, GM Trail Blazer, that size. I'm surprised the Outlook has a 4500 lb towing capacity. Whichever one you decide on, a weight distributing hitch would be wise.
